CAMP BROSIUS

At this camp, we participated in leadership and team building activities. This experience provided me with knowledge and experience of leading a team, making strong connections, and helped me to learn what kind of leader I am. We took a strengthsfinder test and I was given my top 5 strengths, mine were: realtor, achiever, activator, focus, and significance. My leadership style includes being able to form close relationship with team members, being able to work hard for a long period of time, turning thoughts into action, being able to take directions, follow through, and make the corrections necessary, and working to create a big impact.

InShape Internship

As a student personal trainer through IUPUI's Inshape program, I learned how to program and teach personalized exercise prescriptions, as well as how to be personal trainer. I had never done anything like this before and I had an overall amazing experience! I helped my client reach her goal of being able to do different lifts with 15-20 pound heavier weights, helped her gain confidence in the gym, set good habits and a regular schedule, as well as overall feel more strong and healthy. I experienced many obstacles that helped me learn to adapt and become a better trainer. An example of an experience that I had that presented me with a learning opportunity was when I shadowed some of my classmates and was able to see how they were working to accomplish their clients goals, and how they variated the exercises to fit their clients needs. We were able to learn off of each others mistakes and success. This allowed me to better my individual program as well get an insight on how to accomplish different goals for individuals. To describe this experience in 6 words I would use: rewarding, personable, adaptability, perseverance, community, and uplifting. I chose these words because they represent how to experience has affected me. It was a rewarding experience to see my client succed and meet her goals that we set at the beginning. It was personable because I was able to form such a strong relationship with my client. I chose the word adaptability because sometimes in this process I would have to go off of my plan and improvise, maybe my client was sore or not feeling well, or the equipment I was planning on using was being used, I had to improvise and adapt to different situations. I chose perseverance because creating new habits and working through our goals with my client was not always easy and we had to persevere through the good and bad days. Community was a word I chose because that is what the class felt like to me, not only were we helping the community with this program, but my classmates because a community to me by helping me, supporting me, and giving me advice when I needed it. Lastly, I chose uplifting because the gym is a very uplifting place because it is always full of people trying to better themselves and typically has a very supportive, encouraging, uplifting enviornment.

Each and everyone of these experiences allowed me to form close relationships, and grow as a student, coach, and person. I was challenged in so many different ways and had to overcome so many obstacles that it bettered me and my knowledge. I have been provided with real world experiences that I can take with forever and use to my advantage as a professional.
